Star of LeMoyne
Pictures by Rebecca Davis
Rows of eight-pointed stars in brick red, brown, blue and pink fill this patchwork quilt that Rebecca Davis stitched around 1846. The LeMoyne Star is thought to take its name from the Le Moyne brothers, who founded New Orleans, and here it becomes a warm, handmade field of stars for a birthday. For someone who loves things made by hand.
