Bazley's Rosette
Pictures by Thomas S. Bazley
Bazley's Rosette, a lace of white looping lines on a black disc, comes from Thomas S. Bazley's Notes on the Epicycloidal Cutting Frame, published in London in 1872. Bazley cut the design on a lathe fitted with a set of gears that swept the cutting point round and round in loops, then printed it as white lines on black. For a birthday, for someone who loves a beautiful pattern.
