No. 11 of 15 · Hokusai & Hiroshige
Swiftly I'll Fly to Thee
Pictures by HiroshigeWords by Ariwara no Yukihira
Hiroshige's Moon Pine at Ueno curls one great branch into a circle over a quiet pond, paired with Ariwara no Yukihira's poem promising to fly swiftly back if the old pine whispers that he is missed. Hiroshige was one of the great masters of the Japanese woodblock print, and his work went on to inspire Van Gogh and Monet. For someone you miss and long to see.

Inside, it says
If breezes on Inaba's peak Sigh through the old pine tree, To whisper in my lonely ears That thou dost pine for me, Swiftly I'll fly to thee.
On the back
Hokusai (1760-1849) and Hiroshige (1797-1858) were the great masters of the Japanese woodblock print. Their waves, rain and moonlit rabbits inspired Van Gogh and Monet. The card is paired with a short Japanese poem.
