Sleep Baby Sleep
Pictures by Hiroshige
Hiroshige's two white rabbits sit beneath a great pale moon among autumn grasses, paired with the Slumber Song of Izumo, a Japanese lullaby that wonders why the little hares have such long, soft ears. Hiroshige was one of the great masters of the Japanese woodblock print, and his moonlit rabbits went on to inspire Van Gogh and Monet. For a new baby and the parents singing them to sleep.
