New Years Sparrows
Pictures by HiroshigeWords by Ransetsu
Two of Hiroshige's sparrows dart past snow-laden camellia branches in his print Sparrows and Camellia in Snow, paired with Ransetsu's short poem welcoming the New Year with joy among people and chattering sparrows. Hiroshige was a great master of the Japanese woodblock print, and his work went on to inspire Van Gogh and Monet. For someone you wish a happy New Year.
