Richard Earlom was an English engraver, a master of mezzotint, a way of engraving that gives soft, velvety tones. He engraved paintings by many artists, and several plates for Robert Thornton’s Temple of Flora, which set its flowers against dramatic landscapes. Our lily card is one of them.
