Painter
The painter of the Eiffel Tower and of whirling circles of colour.
1885–1941Born Paris, France
Robert Delaunay painted the Eiffel Tower again and again from 1909, breaking it into tumbling, shattered views. With his wife, the artist Sonia Delaunay, he went on to paint bright discs and circles of pure colour, a style the poet Apollinaire called Orphism. Our card is his Eiffel Tower of 1909.
