The life
1889–1924Born Ivanovskoye, near Moscow, Russia
Lyubov Popova studied in Moscow and Paris and, from 1915, painted what she called painterly architectonics: bright planes of colour that seem to tilt and overlap. After the revolution she designed textiles, books and stage sets, wanting art to be part of daily life. She died of scarlet fever at 35. Our cards are two of her architectonic paintings, of 1915 and 1917.
