The Swiss-born designer who helped bring Art Nouveau to Paris.
1845–1917Born Lausanne, Switzerland
Eugène Grasset trained in Lausanne and settled in Paris in 1871, where he designed posters, books, stained glass, furniture and even a typeface. He studied plants closely and taught a generation of designers how to turn them into ornament. Our card, In the Woods, first appeared in the art magazine L’Estampe moderne.
