Evgenia Evenbakh studied in St Petersburg before the Revolution and, from 1918 to 1923, with Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin. In the 1920s she drew picture books for the children’s section of the State Publishing House in Leningrad, among the circle of artists around Vladimir Lebedev, working with writers such as Daniil Kharms and Alexander Vvedensky. She lived and worked in Leningrad to the end of her long life. Our card, Parrots, is her cover for Kharms’s 1928 book How Kolka Pankin Flew to Brazil.
