The life
1880–1938Born Aschaffenburg, Germany
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner co-founded Die Brücke (The Bridge) in Dresden in 1905, a group of young artists who painted in raw, bright colour. After a breakdown during the First World War he moved to Davos in the Swiss mountains, where he painted farmers, cattle and peaks for the rest of his life. Our card, Mountain with Cattle, is from his first years there.
