The life
active 1871–1904
Camille N. Drie, sometimes written Dry, drew bird’s-eye views of Southern cities from the early 1870s, among them Charleston, Galveston and Vicksburg. His great work was Pictorial St. Louis of 1875, a view on 110 plates that together measure about nine by twenty-four feet, with every building in the city drawn. His last known view was of Birmingham, Alabama, in 1904. Our card Charleston: St. Philip’s Church has his 1872 view of Charleston inside, and his work also appears in Galveston Harbor.
