The life
1830–1903Born Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas (then Danish West Indies)
Camille Pissarro was born on the Caribbean island of St Thomas and came to France to paint. He was the only artist to show in all eight Impressionist exhibitions, and a generous teacher to younger painters such as Cézanne and Gauguin. He loved village lanes, fields and the people who worked in them, in every season. Our card is his Snow at Louveciennes.
