The life
1804–1868Born Bordeaux, France
Adrien Dauzats, the son of a theatre scene painter in Bordeaux, travelled with Baron Taylor through Egypt, Sinai, Palestine and Syria from 1828, and later through Spain, drawing for Taylor’s great illustrated travel books. His Sinai drawings went into a travel book written by his friend Alexandre Dumas, and he became known for painting the places he saw with careful accuracy. Our card, View of Malaga from the North, is his light watercolour of the town and its cathedral from 1836.
