The East Gate, Delft
Pictures by Photoglob Co. and Braun & Hogenberg
The red-brick East Gate of Delft rises between tall trees, its two slender spires reflected in a dark canal, in a hand-coloured photochrom from about 1895. Built around 1400, it is the only gate of the city's medieval walls still standing, and inside it opens onto an old bird's-eye map of Delft. For someone who loves old Dutch towns.
