Sea Urchins and Sand Dollars
Pictures by Albertus Seba
Rows of sea urchins in soft pinks, yellows, lavenders and greens surround two star-marked sand dollars on this plate from Albertus Seba's Thesaurus of Natural Curiosities of 1758. Seba, an Amsterdam apothecary, had his great cabinet of shells and sea creatures drawn and engraved, and an old legend says the sand dollar tells the Easter story. For anyone who loves the shore.
