No. 91 of 108 · A Hundred Worlds
Plum Blossom
Pictures by Kamisaka Sekka
Kamisaka Sekka's plum branches sweep across a warm apricot ground, dotted with white blossoms and soft green lichen, from his woodblock book Flowers of a Hundred Worlds, printed in Kyoto in 1909-10. The plum is the first tree to flower in the new year, often while snow still lies on the ground, a quiet sign of fresh beginnings. For someone starting something new.
