Cone Shells (Seba)
Pictures by Albertus Seba
Dozens of hand-coloured cone shells spiral into a rosette in this plate from Albertus Seba's Thesaurus of Natural Curiosities of 1758. Seba, an Amsterdam apothecary, had his great cabinet of shells and sea creatures drawn and engraved, and cone shells were the jewels of such collections. For a beachcomber, a collector or anyone who loves the sea.
