Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol
Pictures by Photoglob Co. and Braun & Hogenberg
Brunel's Clifton Suspension Bridge spans the Avon Gorge in this softly tinted photochrom from about 1895, with steamers on the blue river far below and an old Braun and Hogenberg map of Bristol inside. Brunel never saw it finished: the bridge opened in 1864, five years after his death, and it still carries traffic today. For someone who loves Bristol or old places.
