The life
1895–1960Born Antwerp, Belgium
Jozef Peeters is counted among the first Belgian abstract artists. Drawn to Futurism after meeting Marinetti in 1918, he founded the Antwerp group Moderne Kunst, showed his first abstract painting in 1920, published albums of linocuts, and with Michel Seuphor edited the avant-garde magazine Het Overzicht. He stopped painting between 1925 and 1955, and his apartment and studio in Antwerp, which he furnished himself, is now a museum. Our card, Het Overzicht No. 14, shows the magazine’s December 1922 cover, whose design is probably his.
