The life
1803–1847Born Nancy, France
J. J. Grandville, born Jean Ignace Isidore Gérard in Nancy, made his name in Paris with satirical drawings and illustrated fables. His books imagined a world where animals dress and argue like people and flowers come to life. Our card, Tea and Coffee, comes from Les Fleurs animées (The Flowers Come to Life), published in 1847, the year he died.
