The life

The initials HBG appear on hundreds of holiday postcards published by Leubrie & Elkus of New York between about 1907 and 1912, for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Valentine's Day and Easter; collectors count more than 500 designs. Collectors and dealers name the artist H. B. Griggs, but no full first name, life dates or photograph has been reliably documented, and it is not certain whether HBG was a man or a woman. Dates such as 'c. 1870-1940' circulate online without a source. We found no evidence linking HBG to Frances Brundage. The cards show children, pumpkins, black cats and stylish young women in a crisp Art Nouveau manner. Picturepops cards use HBG's Leubrie & Elkus holiday postcards of 1908 to 1912.
