The life
1879–1919Born Vienna, Austria
Gustav Jahn studied at the Vienna Academy and made the high Alps his subject, in paintings, prints, postcards and a celebrated series of posters for the Austrian state railways. He was also one of the leading climbers of his day, opening routes that are still popular, and he died in a climbing fall in the Ennstal Alps in 1919. Our card, Dubrovnik, is his travel poster of the walled city, then called Ragusa.
