The life
about 1629–1706Born Gouda, Netherlands
Frederik de Wit was born in Gouda and moved to Amsterdam around 1648, where he opened a print and map shop on the Kalverstraat that from 1655 traded as the White Chart. He engraved and published world maps, sea atlases and town plans there until his death in 1706. Our card, Plaza Mayor, Madrid, opens onto his bird’s-eye map of the city after the great plan by Pedro Texeira.
