The life
1826–1889Born Tepetlaoxtoc, Mexico
Casimiro Castro studied at the Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City and became one of the leading graphic artists of nineteenth-century Mexico. His album México y sus alrededores, published in 1855, showed the capital and its surroundings, some of it drawn from balloons and rooftops, and his later Album del Ferrocarril Mexicano followed the new railway from Mexico City down to Veracruz. His work sits beside Carl Nebel’s on our card, The Main Plaza of Veracruz.
