The life
1860–1943
Amanda Almira Newton painted fruit for the United States Department of Agriculture, recording new varieties so growers could tell them apart. She is the second most prolific artist in the USDA’s Pomological Watercolor Collection, with about one in six of its paintings, and she also made wax models of fruit. Our cherries, grapes and etrog cards are hers.
