The Zytglogge Clock Tower, Bern
Pictures by Photoglob Co. and Gregor Sickinger
Bern's medieval Zytglogge tower rises above a cobbled, arcaded street in this hand-coloured Photochrom from around 1895, its golden astronomical clock glowing in the afternoon light. The little figures on the clock have performed on the hour since the 1530s, and inside, an old engraved map of the city spreads out beneath red rooftops. For someone who loves Switzerland or dreams of old European towns.
