Leaves and Fruit
Pictures by Hu Zhengyan
Grey-green leaves veined in rust red hang from slender branches with small golden fruit, a design for a round fan from Hu Zhengyan's Ten Bamboo Studio, printed in Nanjing in 1633. Each leaf's veins were printed in a second colour from a separate block, a careful touch of early Chinese colour printing. For someone who loves quiet, old art.
