Humph, Said the Camel
Pictures by Rudyard Kipling
Rudyard Kipling's own drawing from Just So Stories shows the Djinn, trailing smoke and holding a fan, beside a dark camel in the desert, and inside the Camel gives his famous one-word answer, "Humph." Kipling wrote these stories to be read aloud to his own children, and he drew the pictures himself. For someone who loves a good story, or a good grumble.
