The life
1866–1944Born Moscow, Russia
Wassily Kandinsky trained as a lawyer and gave it up at thirty to study painting in Munich, where in 1911 he founded the Blue Rider group with Franz Marc. Around the same time he made some of the first paintings with no subject at all, only colour, line and shape, which he compared to music. From 1922 he taught at the Bauhaus, and he spent his last years near Paris. Our card, Picture with Arrow Form, reproduces a watercolour he made in Weimar in 1923.
