The life
1839–1906Born Aix-en-Provence, France
Paul Cézanne worked for years in Paris beside the Impressionists, but he wanted something more solid and lasting than a passing impression. Back home in Aix-en-Provence he painted the same subjects again and again, apples on a table and the mountain Mont Sainte-Victoire, building them from patches of colour. Younger painters, from Matisse to Picasso, saw him as the start of modern art. Our cards are Mont Sainte-Victoire of 1904 and Apples and Primroses.
