The life
1614–1681Born Frankenthal, Germany
Jacob Marrel was a German still-life painter who worked for years in Utrecht during the Dutch Golden Age, painting flowers and the striped tulips collectors paid fortunes for. He later married the widow of the engraver Matthäus Merian and taught his stepdaughter, Maria Sibylla Merian, to paint. Our tulip card is his.
