The life
1850–1917
Henry Wellge began as an artist for the Madison publisher J. J. Stoner and in the 1880s set up his own business in Milwaukee, issuing views under Henry Wellge & Co., Norris, Wellge & Co. and the American Publishing Co. He was one of the five artists who between them made more than half of the panoramic maps in the Library of Congress, with views of towns in twenty-four states, Canada and Mexico. Our card Norfolk Harbor is his 1892 view of the city, and his bird’s-eye views also appear in Salt Lake City, Fishing Boats, Key West and Hotel Ponce de Leon, St. Augustine.
