The life
about 1807–1884Born Birmingham, England
Henry Burn was born in Birmingham, the son of a varnish maker, and in the 1840s travelled around England drawing topographical views on stone. He sailed to Melbourne in the early 1850s and spent the rest of his life painting and lithographing the growing city and its surroundings, showing his work at the Victorian Academy of Arts in the 1870s. He died in Melbourne in 1884. Our card, Melbourne, 1862, is his tinted lithograph looking north from Princes Bridge into the young city.
