The life
1804–1841Born Ramsgate, Kent, England
Elizabeth Gould drew and lithographed hundreds of plates for the bird books of her husband, the ornithologist John Gould, among them The Birds of Europe, and travelled with him to Australia to draw its birds. She died at 37, after the birth of her eighth child. Our owl, kite and falcon cards are hers.
